Language-learning game

Kuri x Kuri

A game for learning English and Spanish vocabulary against the clock: you see a word and type its translation before time runs out. Combos, levels and exams turn reviewing into a game.

The challenge

Reviewing vocabulary with lists or flashcards works, but it's boring, and boring things get dropped. The goal was to make practicing English or Spanish feel like playing, without losing what makes reviewing work: seeing lots of words, often, and knowing right away whether you got them right.

The solution

Every game is 20 words against the clock: a word appears and you type its translation before time runs out. Correct answers in a row chain into combos that multiply your points up to four times, and the content is split into four categories, from Beginner to Bilingual, with levels and exams. The interface is warm and illustrated, designed to make you want one more round. It's built with Next.js, TypeScript and Supabase.

The result

Kuri x Kuri turns reviewing into short games that fit into any spare moment: 20 words, a score and a combo begging to be beaten. It's the most complete example of how I approach gamification: simple rules, instant feedback and a reason to come back tomorrow.
